Final Thoughts/Prayer…Night Before Leaving for Targa West

Ok – its the night before I leave for Vernon and my mind won’t stop running.

Am I forgetting something?
Will my car survive?
Will I survive?

Tools are packed. Bags are packed. I’ve cleaned my windows as there was a lot of crap which caused excess glare. I’ve cleaned my air filter. I’ve downloaded as much Initial D music onto my Ipod as it can take. I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.

The final entry list is out. Here are some highlights:
– Corvette Z06 – >400 hp
– Cadillac CTS-V Coupe – >400hp
– Audi S4 – >340hp
– BMW Z4M – 333 hp
– Porsche Boxter Spyder – 320hp
– Aston Martin Vantage – 380hp
– Jaguar XKR – 500hp
– Porsche GTS – 408hp
– Porsche 911 GT3 – 415hp
– Maserati Granturismo MC – 444hp
– BMW M5 – A lot
– BMW M3 – 333hp
– Ferrari 360 – 400hp
– Mazda Miata – 142hp (when new, which was over 10 years ago)

Needless to say, I am an underdog here. And those numbers above are assuming no tuning has occured.

Cam (my co-driver) expressed his concern for me as gently as he could put it – “We are DOOMED”.

Which somehow makes it incredibly exciting. Its the challenge, knowing that you are the underdog, and that if you even challenge much less eek out a win over one of these Goliaths that no matter what I take home (probably nothing), I will be extremely satisfied. Maybe I have watched Initial D too many times?

I don’t know – am I crazy?

You can see the complete list here.

PS: because I didn’t think the handicap above was enough, I gashed my hand pretty significantly a few days ago doing something pretty stupid – trying to cut nylon zip ties with a dull knife. The cut is deep enough that I can see flesh at its most shallow part and I can’t touch anything with my pinky finger, much less grip the steering wheel with my left hand properly.
